Who We Are
Grounded in the United Methodist witness to the gospel, we are a congregation committed to loving God, loving one another and loving our neighbors near and far. We are a church community where all are welcome and supported like family. Here we are challenged to grow in faith and we get things done to benefit others.
We hope you will visit on Sunday morning to experience Basehor UMC for yourself. Ask us about the variety of study and service opportunities offered. Check out the youth program and children's ministry. Experience the Holy Spirit through this vibrant and joyful church community!
Our Mission
Grow in God’s Love and Share It with Others.
Our Vision
The Basehor United Methodist Church is a strong community of faith, serving residents of Basehor and surrounding communities, whose purpose is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We offer our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness so that we can grow in faith and show God’s love to others.
Our History
The Basehor United Methodist Church has a rich history. For over 140 years Methodists have worshiped in Basehor. Our church was founded in 1877 with services being given in German. Three locations have claimed the church as home.
The first was located just north of the Pin Oak subdivision. That building was moved to the second site at the southwest corner of 155th Terrace and Maple. In the mid-1990’s, we voted to search for a new site. However, our time table was moved up when our 120-year-old church was destroyed by fire in November 1997.
The next three years we worshiped in our education building on the old site. In September of 2000, we began holding services in the new Basehor-Linwood High School auditorium. Land became available and upon its purchase, we began raising funds for our present building–our third location. During 2002, we held our groundbreaking, began construction, and even held two services in our partially completed sanctuary.
Our new sanctuary was consecrated in March 2003. Throughout our history, God has enabled us to know God’s love and share it with others, no matter where we are
